We all know that a diet high in processed foods can cause toxicity, inflammation, heart disease, imbalanced hormones and weight gain. The verdict is definitely out that foods such as sugar, wheat and gluten are higher on the acidic scale compared to fruits and vegetables. It's no doubt that eating more fruits and vegetables, especially dark leafy greens, can benefit our health as they provide us with essential vitamins and minerals. Research has shown time and time again the benefits they have on lowering blood pressure, preventing heart disease and even slowing the aging process.

Your body has a physiological response to food. Everything from healthy cells to cancer cells to soil quality and ocean life is affected by what's known as pH (potential hydrogen), or acid-alkaline.

The_Benefits_of_an_Alkaline_Diet2Our body works hard to maintain this delicate acid-alkaline balance. In fact, to maintain this balance our body requires antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

You can simply load up on antioxidant berries throughout the day, fill your plate with a variety of vegetables and make yourself delicious and nourishing green smoothies to support alkalinity. It's really that simple.

When there's even the slightest chance that you could become too acidic, your body will create alkaline minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium and pull these minerals from your bones, teeth, and organs to neutralize the acids.

So you guessed it! The minerals needed to support your bones and teeth are now being used to buffer the excess acidity. This means your body is being forced to pull minerals from where it's needed most just to create an alkaline rich environment. If minerals are being pulled from your teeth and bones you could suffer with osteoporosis, cavities, dental problems and a host of health issues.

This is why your diet is vital! You need to supply your body with those incredible alkalizing minerals. Unfortunately, burgers, fries, diet soda, coffee and refined sugar all tend to be overly acidic.

Leafy greens, sprouts and fruits and vegetables are all high alkaline foods and will support your health and longevity. Make yourself this amazing alkalizing green smoothie recipe and you'll give your body a dose of antioxidants and essential minerals.
